Q: How can I put up an item for sale?
A: To be a seller you need to be a registered member of Makeauctions.com. If you are already a member you need only to login and click on the SELL tab on the top of the page. Then you can follow this step by step instruction to list an individual item:
- Select the general category of the item you want listed.
- Select the secondary category of the item you want listed. Note that this incurs a fee. See Site Fees for details.
- Enter the required fields like Auction Name, Start Bid Amount, Bid Ending Date, Postage and Insurance Costs (not required though an estimate is preferred), and of course the Item Description.
- Choose the other settings according to your preference. Again certain settings like being Category featured, Homepage featured, and having a Buy-it-now option will incur a fee. Please see Site Fees for details.
- Upload a picture(s) of the item to be sold. Make sure you upload a good copy since most buyers decide based on what they see.
- Check the completeness and the accurateness of everything you wrote before you click on the DONE button.

Q: Can I list one item several times?
A: Unless you have multiple copies of the item to be sold you should never do this since it can lead to two buyers winning two separate bids for the same item. This would of course get you into trouble since you wouldn’t be able to deliver the promised item to one of the bidders. You can however re-list the item if it is not sold by the end of the bid period. |
1 |
Q: How do I keep track of the status of the items I am selling?
A: Just login and go to your Member’s Area. Click on the Selling link. This will bring you to your selling page where you will see all your listed items and their status. |

Q: I want to make my item listing look really nice by using HTML in the description part. Is this possible?
A: Yes. We do not encourage this practice though since complex HTML descriptions sometimes do not render properly. |

Q: Do I need to login just to window shop at Makeauction.com?
A: No. Even non-members allowed to look at all the items that are up for sale in Makeauction.com. If you decide to buy something while window shopping though that is the time you will be required to login or register, depending on whether you are a member already or not. |

Q: How do I buy an item in Makeauction.com?
A: First you need to be a registered member. Next you will need to login to your account. All you need to do is to click on the Auction Name of the item you are interested in. This will show you the details and including the Starting Bid and Current Bid. If you wish to buy the item simply click on the Bidding button found on the bottom of the page. You will then be required to enter the maximum amount you are willing to bid on the item. The amount should of course be larger than the Current Bid. Submit your bid once you are sure. |
1 |
Q: Why should I enter the maximum amount I am willing to bid and not just a higher amount than the last bid I saw?
A: This is because Makeauction.com will bid automatically for you. The bid we will place will be the lowest required bid to outbid the current bidder. However if someone outbids your first bid we will automatically place another higher bid for you until you win the bidding or until the maximum amount you indicated was reached, in which case you will lose the bid if someone has indicated an even higher amount. This means that you won’t have to pay for more than you need to but at the same time won’t need to keep constant watch of your bid simply to ensure you win. |
1 |
Q: How do I know if I am outbid?
A: We will automatically send you a notice once you are outbid so that you can visit Makeauction.com and submit an even higher bid if you wish to. |
1 |
Q: What is the Buy-it-Now Option for?
A: The Buy-it-Now Option is a feature that some sellers choose to have which allows buyers to buy an item without having to go through the bidding process. This requires the buyer to pay the seller a fixed price (the Buy-It-Now Price), which is usually higher than the starting bid. This is advantageous for buyers who really want the item since there is no risk of being outbid by other buyers. When you buy an item using this feature you won’t need to wait for the end of the bidding period to finalize the transaction. |
1 |
Q: How do I keep track of the status of my bids?
A: All you need to do is login, go to the Member’s Area, and click on the Bidding link. There you will see a list of the bids you’ve made and the important details such as current bid, your status, time left till bidding ends, etc. |

Other Issues

Q: What is the currency used in Makeauction.com?
A: Although we are a UK registered site the default currency is US Dollars. However, some sellers might accept other currencies as payment depending on the agreement with the buyer. If you wish to pay using other currencies please contact the seller BEFORE you bid to avoid any problems. |
1 |
Q: Why are there many items listed that have no details regarding postage and insurance costs? How can I find out the actual cost?
A: Because they vary depending on the location of the buyer. To make sure you can afford the postage and insurance costs on top of the amount you will need to pay for the item you bought please contact the seller BEFORE you bid for an estimate. This will help avoid any potential problems come payment time. This is not a problem though if the Shipping details say “FREE Shipping”. |
